Soccer, known as Ghana’s national past time, plays a pivotal role in helping school age girls learn English, the language of business. The Roanoke Star Soccer Club, in partnership with Kimoyo, hosts a local soccer tournament each year in the U.S., with proceeds and equipment donated to the literacy program.
The girls, who normally leave school to contribute to their household, now complete the three-month program, setting the foundation for a future opportunity and personal success.
Kimoyo is one of the leading providers of cultural diversity education programs in the Roanoke Valley. Our unique expertise in Ghanaian culture provides the perfect vehicle for teaching important concepts like cultural tolerance and global citizenship.
Kimoyo Enrichment Programs place a priority on student improvement on the Virginia Standards of Learning. Although structured in a fun environment, students are assessed at the beginning and end of the school year to measure progress.
We use African history, crafts, games, dance and music as tools to enable young people to develop a greater sense of their identity in an increasingly diverse global community.
